Adobe Acrobat: Output intent doesn't override working spaces on export/save as
~ at July 16, 2008 by Frank Spangenberg
During saving or exporting a PDF file (with an embedded output intent profile) as for example a TIFF file, Acrobat converts the document — somehow — to the working space profile, even if “Output intent overrides working spaces” is enabled.
Normally, Acrobat should export the document using the output intent profile. (or should provide a dialog to choose color profile and conversion settings)
Example
- Edit > Preferences > Color Management
- Change “Settings” to something different than FOGRA27, e.g. to a Japan presets
- Enable: “Output intent override working spaces” (Acrobat 7 & Acrobat 8 only)
- Open sample PDF file
- File > Save As > File Type: TIFF
or
File > Export > Image > TIFF - Settings: CMYK “Embed Profile”
- Open TIFF file, e.g. in Photoshop and you'll see that there is the CMYK profile of your selected Japan preset attached and not the FOGRA27-based Output Intent profile :-(
- Sample file: 70% Cyan, Output Intent “Coated FOGRA27 (ISO 12647-2:2004)” [PDF]
- Sample file: Exported TIFF file [TIFF]
